5/20/08 Things to do in Quantico, VA...

For those that say there is nothing to do in their military town, I have to laugh! There is always, always, always stuff to do! Sometimes you might have to be a little creative, but we have had a GREAT time where we've been stationed. Do a little research, ask around, step outside your comfort zone, and you're in for a lot of fun! Granted we're only on our second duty station (soon to be third in two weeks), but I have still been able to find lots to do! This is a list of some of the things that kept us entertained:

Quantico, VA(and the surrounding area, seeing as how it is Quantico)
  • Marine Corps Museum
  • Potomac Point Winery
  • There are cute restaurants in Q-Town. Grab something to go and take it to the Marina or fishing areas for a picnic.
  • The Base movie theater offers super cheap, new movies.
  • Free yoga classes at the gym
  • Downtown Fredericksburg-TONS of great restaurants and shopping
  • Fredericksburg Battlefield site
  • Mt. Vernon (my favorite!)
  • Go to the Marine Corps Ball!
  • Potomac Mills (if you can stomach it)
  • Colonial Williamsburg (free tickets offered to military and their dependents during Veteren's Day weekend)
  • Paddy's Irish Pub in Stafford
  • Brunch at the Officer's Club
  • Historic Occoquan-again, great shopping and scenery is this old downtown
  • Lunga Park
  • Check out the amazing library on base!
  • County library (offers free DVD rentals!)
  • Go to Warrior Day!
  • Alexandria-For those Aggies out there, watching Aggie Football at the Crystal City Sports Bar (complete with Yell Practice and Blue Bell!)

Washington, DC-TONS of stuff of course (most of it is FREE!!!) but my favorites are:

  • The Decatur House
  • Hot dog vendors
  • Fado Irish Pub (in Chinatown...haha!)
  • Looking at the White House
  • Eastern Market
  • Midnight monument hopping
  • People watching on the mall
  • 8th and I Parade
  • Sculpture Garden
  • National Archives

I have LOTS more. If you're interested in anything else, let me know! There is ALWAYS something to do...even in Quantico!
